Yellow Buses route 1 is a bus route in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, operating between Poole (old town) and Christchurch.
History[]
This route was numbered 1c in the pre-2017 network, which operated between Somerford and Poole bus station mostly on today's route, the difference as of April 2015 is that it operated on Hunt Road between Christchurch and Somerford, and through Upper Parkstone and Sea View between Branksome and Poole.
In the 2017 network reorganisation, route 1c was grouped as a PROIRYLINE and renamed as P3, truncated as Bournemouth - Somerford, and modified to serve Springbourne (Holdenhurst Road) instead of Christchurch Road, with the original Poole - Boscombe section served by R1 instead.
On the restoration of the numbered network in April 2018, route P3 was renumbered as 1 and re-extended to Poole bus station via the old 1c route again, "copycatting" the morebus route m2[1], and shortened to Christchurch, no longer served Hunt Road to Somerford (replaced by route 1b).
In September 2018, route 1 was split into two on combined headway - route 1 itself was modified to run on Bournemouth Road between Poole and Branksome, replacing the shortened section of route 3, and route 1c ran the full old route, which reduced the service level between Westbourne and Poole.[2]
In January 2019, further service reduction was seen on this route, with route 1c totally withdrawn, leaving only an hourly service, with no Sunday service on this route between Bournemouth and Poole.[3]
In February 2020, due to anti-social behaviour at Poole Bus Station[4], route 1 was modified to terminate at Poole railway station instead, and serve the old town for some of the journeys.
Yellow Buses went out of business on 5 August 2022 and morebus took over the route between Bournemouth and Christchurch next day, with the section between Poole and Bournemouth replaced by its own route morebus routes m1/m2.
