Smethwick Galton Bridge is a split-level railway station in Smethwick, West Midlands, England. It is at a point where two railways lines cross on two levels. It has platforms on both lines, allowing interchange between them. The two low-level platforms serve the Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton Line, while the two high-level platforms serve the Birmingham Snow Hill to Worcester Line. The high level line passes over the low level line at a right angle on a bridge. London Midland manage the station and operate the majority of its services, with others provided by Chiltern Railways and Arriva Trains Wales.

The present station opened in 1995 when the line from Birmingham Snow Hill reopened, replacing the nearby Smethwick West station. It is named after the adjacent Galton Bridge. It is an important interchange, 357,845 people changed trains at the station during In 2011/12.[1]

Services[]

The High Level platforms 1 & 2 are served by Chiltern Railways & London Midland. Chiltern Railways run peak hour services between Kidderminster and London Marylebone using Class 168 trains, with 6 trains to London in the morning and 5 from London in the evening.[2] London Midland local services run as part of the cross-city Snow Hill Lines - using Class 172 units; running every 10 minutes during the daytime, and every 30 minutes on Sundays & evenings to Stourbridge Junction and Birmingham Snow Hill and Moor Street. Some trains to Stourbridge run on to Kidderminster, the Worcester triangle (Worcester Shrub Hill and/or Worcester Foregate Street) and Great Malvern. Trains to Birmingham split off and either go on to Dorridge, with some trains from Dorridge extending onto Leamington Spa or to Whitlocks End and Stratford-upon-Avon.[3]
