London Buses route C2 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Metroline.
History[]
Camden Hoppa Route C2 began in March 1987 from the withdrawal of the Northern End of route 53 (between Parliament Hill Fields and Oxford Circus from 4 April 1987). The route was initially tendered to London Country North West (LCNW), running between Regent Street via Camden Town to Parliament Hill Fields, using Optare CityPacers minibuses leased from London Regional Transport from Muswell Hill Garage. LCNW surrendered the route during June 1988, with London Buses taking over operation of the route, from Victoria Garage using their leased CityPacers.
The route stayed at Victoria (Basement) Garage, eventually with London General using Optare StarRiders, until January 1994, when the route was lost to London Northern.
The StarRiders moved with the route to Holloway Garage, although this was only temporary as Northern Counties Paladin 9m bodied Camden Link route branded Dennis Darts (DNLs) entered service in June. The 1990s saw a brief period where the route was extended northwards via Highgate and Crouch End. Privatisation saw the route being passed to MTL London Northern in October, later bought out by Metroline in 1998. The Darts were replaced by double deck Plaxton President bodied Dennis Trident 2s during 1999.
The C2 was converted into a 24-hour service on 14 April 2007. This was the first time that a normal prefix route gained a night service.
In June 2009 the route was extended from Oxford Circus, via Green Park station and Hyde Park Corner to Victoria bus station, partially replacing a withdrawn section of route 8.
