Park and Ride[]

The 'Park and Ride' services within Portsmouth are provided by First Hampshire & Dorset in contract to Portsmouth City Council. The main service (PR1) started service on the 5th April 2014 operating from a brand new P&R terminal within Tipner Range off of the M275.

The first Park and Ride bus departed the M275 terminal on Saturday 5 April 2014 and during its opening week welcomed more than 7,000 customers. On average the service sees 4,000 passengers a week and 17,000 a month. August 2017 was the busiest month to date with over 30,000 passengers choosing Park and Ride to travel in to the city. 3 ADL Enviro 400's were purchased to operate the service, painted in a dark blue colour (unique to the service and not the operator).

From 10th September 2018, PR2 was introduced to provide a connection to the university. The service operates every 30 minutes. To operate this service, one of the three Enviro400's was re-liveried into a purple colour (the same colour as the University of Portsmouth). To cope with the loss of a vehicle, an Volvo B7TL Wright Eclipse Gemini from First was liveried to operate PR1. This has since been transferred to First Kernow, other First H&D double decks are used on the service now.

The QA Staff Shuttle is operated by First for the NHS staff at Queen Alexander Hospital.

Both P&R services were suspended at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and have yet to resume service. The three P&R Enviro 400’s have not been used since the cessation of service either. However, the QA Staff Shuttle has continued throughout the pandemic, and has experienced an increase in frequency.
